Napoli is purportedly eyeing Slovakia coach Francesco Calzona as a potential replacement for current manager Walter Mazzarri, following a disappointing campaign in Serie A.
Despite winning the Serie A title last season, Napoli has struggled to replicate their success in the 2023-24 season, languishing far below expectations in the league standings.
Former manager Rudi Garcia was replaced by Mazzarri earlier in the season, but the team’s performance has not improved significantly under his tenure. Napoli currently finds themselves ninth in the Serie A table, with a significant gap to the league leaders.
Recent reports suggest that discussions will take place to determine Mazzarri’s future at the club, with Calzona reportedly waiting in the wings to take over should a managerial change occur.
Calzona, who has recently guided Slovakia to Euro 2024 qualification, boasts coaching experience at various levels, including stints as assistant manager at Napoli under Maurizio Sarri and Luciano Spalletti.

Despite the potential surprise of his appointment, Calzona’s familiarity with Napoli and his coaching pedigree could make him a suitable candidate to rejuvenate the team’s fortunes.
The decision regarding Napoli’s managerial situation is expected to be made soon, with the first leg of the club’s Champions League last-16 tie against Barcelona looming.
