IS IT TIME FOR AN AFRICAN SEMI-FINALIST? Morocco made history, can it go one step further in Qatar?

The players of Morocco are the actors of the first big surprise at the World Cup in Qatar, and by knocking out Spain in the round of 16, they wrote history.

For the first time, they managed to reach the quarter-finals, at the same time becoming only the fourth African team to be among the eight best national teams in the world.

Let’s remember that Cameroon managed to do that first at the World Cup in Italy in 1990, but they were later eliminated by England 3:2.

Twelve years later, in South Korea and Japan, Senegal was unfortunately eliminated from Turkey by a “golden goal”, a rule that no longer applies to FIFA competitions.

In South Africa 2010, Ghana was unluckily eliminated after a penalty shootout by Uruguay.

All in all, three great quarter-finals for African teams and three very dramatic matches and eliminations.

Maybe it should have been third time lucky, but we are sure that Morocco will not protest even if they become the first team from Africa among the four best teams in the world.

Valid Regraghi will closely follow the duel between Portugal and Switzerland tonight, scan the weaknesses of a potential rival in an attempt to finally lead the African selection to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
