Matt Doherty finished the season

Tottenham will be significantly weakened in the continuation of the fight for the Champions League because it has been confirmed that Matt Doherty finished this season due to a knee injury.

Doherty was in a duel with Aston Villa player Matty Cash. He tried to continue the match but was in too much pain and left the field.

He was replaced in the first half and the first estimates are that he will take a break for up to 12 weeks, which automatically excludes him until the end of the season. Tottenham will wait for more detailed examinations to find out if Matt will have to have surgery. That would mean that his absence would be significantly extended.

The Irishman was almost forgotten at the start of the season at the London club. It was believed that working with Nuno Espirito Santo could revive his career but that was not the case. Few expected this to happen when Antonio Conte arrived.

However, he became one of the key players on the team. In the last nine matches where he started, Doherty recorded two goals and four assists.

The positive news for Tottenham is the return of Sergio Regulion and Ryan Sessegnon. Reguilon has just replaced Doherty in the match with Aston Villa and he expects him to take the place in the starting lineup instead of the Irishman.
