Manchester City Misses Out on Signing Mateo Kovacic, One of the Best Midfielders

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Mateo Kovacic’s move to Chelsea has fallen through, despite being on the verge of completion. The Croatian midfielder was expected to make a switch to Manchester City in a high-profile transfer.

Last summer, Chelsea made headlines with extravagant spending in the transfer market, shattering records. However, this summer, the club needs to offload players to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

As a result, Mateo Kovacic, one of Chelsea’s standout players, is set to depart Stamford Bridge. He will join Manchester City on a loan deal, with the Premier League champions having to pay a fee of 40 million euros for his services.

Chelsea endured a disappointing season with three different managers in charge: Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Frank Lampard. The club spent over 600 million euros on transfers but now faces the challenge of complying with financial regulations, leading to the departure of key players.

During his time at Chelsea, Kovacic made 221 appearances, contributing six goals and 15 assists. He played a vital role in the team’s success, including winning the UEFA Europa League in 2019 and the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.
