Valletta Triumph Over Gudja United to Maintain Lead in BOV Challenge League

Valletta bounced back to winning form in the BOV Challenge League with a convincing 3-1 victory over Gudja United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

The Lions took the lead just before halftime when Andrei Ciolacu coolly converted a penalty. Gudja responded quickly after the break, with Eman Micallef equalizing in the 49th minute. However, Ciolacu restored Valletta’s advantage in the 57th minute with his second goal of the match, before Jefferson Ferreira secured the victory with a decisive strike three minutes from time.

Swieqi United Edge Pieta’ Hotspurs

A solitary goal from Augusto Rene Caseres in the 17th minute was enough to hand Swieqi United a narrow 1-0 victory over Pieta’ Hotspurs in an intense encounter at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Marsa Overcome Mtarfa with Late Strike

At the Centenary Stadium, Marsa claimed a 2-0 win over Mtarfa. Jean Claude Bugeja opened the scoring in the 21st minute, and Jake Engerer added a late second in injury time to seal the result.

Santa Lucia Move Up with Victory Over Zurrieq

Santa Lucia climbed to fourth place in the standings after defeating Zurrieq 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium. Jamie Sixsmith broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, and Ibrahim Salis converted a penalty four minutes from time to secure the win.

League Standings

Valletta lead the table with 26 points, maintaining a five-point advantage over Marsa and Swieqi United, who are tied on 21 points. Santa Lucia and Pieta’ follow with 19 points, while Zurrieq and Gudja sit on 17.

Further down the table, Mgarr, Sirens, and Tarxien are level with 16 points, ahead of Zebbug (10), Fgura and St. Andrews (9), Senglea (6), Lija (5), and Mtarfa (4).

As the league progresses, Valletta’s strong form keeps them at the top, but the race for promotion remains competitive, with Marsa and Swieqi in close pursuit.
