Tarxien Rainbows have drawn level with Swieqi United in the race for promotion, setting up a thrilling final two matches in the BOV Challenge League. Tarxien’s latest victory means both sides are now locked on 35 points, just one point behind leaders Valletta, who seem comfortably on their way to the title.

Swieqi, once enjoying a small cushion in second place, are now under serious pressure. They now face a decisive clash against Pietà Hotspurs, who are themselves still mathematically in the hunt with 31 points, knowing that only a win would keep them alive in the promotion race. Tarxien will be watching closely as they also have a crucial fixture against Żurrieq, who are just outside the top four with 28 points, still aiming to finish strong.
With only two games remaining, the battle for the second promotion slot could hardly be tighter. Should Swieqi or Tarxien drop points, Santa Lucia and Mgarr United, sitting on 31 and 30 points respectively, could also become surprise contenders depending on results elsewhere.
At the other end of the table, St Andrews and Żebbuġ Rangers have successfully secured their status for another season after recent crucial victories. Their survival means that the relegation battle now focuses squarely on the likes of Lija Athletic and Senglea Athletic, who are currently bottom with 15 and 13 points respectively.

The upcoming direct clash between Lija and Senglea is shaping up as a winner-takes-all encounter. A defeat for either side could almost certainly confirm their relegation to the National Amateur League, especially with Mtarfa sitting just a point above Lija on 14 points, also still fighting for survival.
With so much still undecided and just two matchdays remaining, both the promotion and relegation battles promise high drama.
