In a bold move to strengthen their defense, West Ham United is reportedly preparing to make a significant splash in the summer transfer window by pursuing Manchester United’s star center-back, Harry Maguire.
Despite a challenging season for the Englishman, West Ham sees immense potential in Maguire’s abilities.
This term, Maguire has faced limited opportunities, with a string of players, including Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, and Luke Shaw, ahead of him in the pecking order. Even recent injuries to Varane and Martinez failed to grant him regular playing time, as manager Erik ten Hag often opted for Shaw alongside Lindelof in the heart of defense.
However, West Ham’s chances of securing Maguire’s signature could be significantly enhanced if they succeed in winning the Europa Conference League, leading to qualification for the Europa League next season. Furthermore, with the potential departure of Declan Rice for a staggering fee nearing £100m, David Moyes’s side could have a substantial transfer budget at their disposal.
While Manchester United is also rumored to be interested in Rice, there have been no indications of a potential swap deal involving Maguire at this stage. He joined the Red Devils from Leicester City in 2019, boasts an impressive track record, having made 174 appearances for the club, contributing seven goals and five assists.
Nonetheless, with his contract at Old Trafford set to expire in June 2025, his recent struggles have raised speculation that Manchester United will seek to part ways with the experienced defender this summer. West Ham United aims to seize this opportunity to bring Maguire’s undeniable talent to the London Stadium and fortify their backline for the challenges ahead.
