Lyon condemned racist attacks on their player

The French football club Lyon today condemned the whistles and racist insults directed at the midfielder of their team, Houssem Aouar after he chose to play for Algeria instead of France.

Aouar suffered insults during a French league match against Nantes on Friday and has also been the target of racist abuse on social media.

“Football is universal,” Lyon announced in a message on social networks.

The club “condemns hatred” and supports “Houssem Aouar as well as all victims of racism and discriminatory acts because of their origin or life choices”.

On March 16, Aouar formalized his decision to play for the Algeria national team in his senior career, after passing through all the junior selections of the French national team.
