In a stunning turn of events in Spain’s La Liga, Barcelona saw their unbeaten record come to an end on Saturday evening, suffering a surprising defeat at the hands of Osasuna. Heading into the match with a perfect record of seven wins from seven games, Hansi Flick’s side faced a tough challenge at the Estadio El Sadar.
The home side struck first as Ante Budimir found the net, giving Osasuna an early lead. The situation worsened for Barcelona when on-loan Bayern Munich winger Bryan Zaragoza doubled the advantage before halftime, leaving the leaders in a precarious position.
Barcelona managed to claw one back eight minutes into the second half with a goal from Pau Victor, sparking hopes of a comeback. However, Osasuna quickly extinguished those hopes when Budimir scored his second goal from the penalty spot, restoring their two-goal cushion. To cap off a fantastic night for the hosts, Abel Bretones added a fourth, leaving Barcelona reeling. Though Lamine Yamal managed to score a late consolation goal, it did little to ease the disappointment for the stunned visitors.
In other La Liga action, Real Sociedad bounced back from a six-game winless streak by defeating Valencia 3-0 in San Sebastián.
Getafe secured a solid 2-0 home victory against Deportivo Alaves, while Rayo Vallecano and Leganes played to a 1-1 draw.
