Vincent Kompany is the new Bayern Munich coach

Bayern Munich have hired Vincent Kompany, previously with Burnley, as their new head coach under a three-year contract.

The 38-year-old takes over from Thomas Tuchel, who left at the season’s end. Bayern agreed to pay Burnley approximately £10.2m in compensation to secure Kompany’s services.

Despite experiencing a challenging season at Turf Moor with Burnley’s relegation to the Championship, the former Manchester City captain brings valuable Bundesliga experience from his time at Hamburg and is proficient in German.

Bayern turned to Kompany after several candidates declined the position, including Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann, and Austria’s Ralf Rangnick.

Kompany, who started his management journey at Anderlecht, leaves Burnley following two seasons at the helm, during which he led the team to win the Championship title in 2023.
