PSV have confirmed that a senior player has tested positive for tuberculosis just days before their important match against Ajax.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf identified the player as 37-year-old Lucas Perez, who recently joined PSV on a free transfer to replace the injured Ricardo Pepi. Perez, a former Arsenal striker, will now stay in quarantine for three weeks.
Although PSV did not officially name the player due to Dutch privacy laws, they stated that Perez is doing well under the circumstances. Local health authorities (GGD), along with the club’s medical team and a lung specialist, have taken all necessary steps to stop the illness from spreading.
The club has said there are currently no signs of further infections within the squad.
PSV are set to play league leaders Ajax on Sunday, 30th March, in a crucial Eredivisie title battle. With eight matches left, PSV are six points behind their rivals.
