Juventus trash Cagliari and make it to the quarters of the Coppa Italia

Juventus beat Cagliari 4-0 with impressive goals from Dusan Vlahovic, Teun Koopmeiners, Francisco Conceicao, and Nico Gonzalez, securing a spot in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals against Empoli.

The teams had drawn 1-1 earlier in the season, and Juventus were coming off four straight draws in Serie A, with fans booing them off after a 2-2 draw with bottom-placed Venezia. With key players like Douglas Luiz, Arkadiusz Milik, and Gleison Bremer out, defenders were replaced by Manuel Locatelli and Wes McKennie in surprising roles. Cagliari travelled without Zito Luvumbo and Adam Obert, focusing on staying out of the relegation zone.

Cagliari had a great chance early on, with Nadir Zortea crossing for Gianluca Lapadula, whose sliding shot was saved by Michele Di Gregorio with his foot.

Dusan Vlahovic fired over from a tight angle after a pass from Teun Koopmeiners, and Kenan Yildiz’s acrobatic volley was blocked by Mateusz Wieteska. Francisco Conceicao’s left-foot shot just missed the far post, and another powerful strike was tipped over the bar by Simone Scuffet.

Juventus took the lead when Kenan Yildiz passed to Vlahovic, who controlled the ball, turned, and scored through Wieteska’s legs into the bottom corner.

They doubled their lead early in the second half with a stunning free-kick from Koopmeiners, who curled a left-foot shot into the top corner from 30 yards. Vlahovic later scored a delicate dinked finish, but it was ruled offside.

Conceicao forced a near-post save from Scuffet, and Nico Gonzalez’s free header was narrowly deflected wide by Lapadula. Vlahovic had another goal disallowed for offside after a header from Conceicao’s curling cross.

It should’ve been 3-0 when Vlahovic caught Alessandro Deiola off guard and raced forward, but his attempt to round Scuffet ended in the side-netting.

Conceicao finally got his goal after several tries, cutting inside and curling a shot into the bottom corner with his left foot.

Nico Gonzalez finished with a brilliant goal, running from his own half and, at full sprint, lobbing Scuffet with perfect precision from the edge of the area.

Cagliari’s Prati tried his luck with a shot, but Di Gregorio saved it, keeping a clean sheet.
