Bayer Leverkusen win historic first Bundesliga title

Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen managed to win their first Bundesliga title in style with a thumping 5-0 win over Werder Bremen. This means that Bayer Leverkusen have an unassailable 16-point lead over Bayern Munich with five matches left in the season.

A great second-half hat-trick from Florian Wirtz wrapped up a 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen with Granit Xhaka and Victor Boniface also on the scoresheet.

Despite some first-half nerves, the hosts were typically ruthless and showed just why they are unbeaten in 43 league games. There were a number of pitch invasions before the final whistle from the jubilant Leverkusen fans but in the end all was well.
