Guardiola explained why Haaland was replaced at halftime

The coach of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, to everyone’s surprise, last night in the match of the group stage of the Champions League, he replaced his best striker and former player of Dortmund, the Norwegian Erling Haaland, already at halftime when the score was 0:0.

Guardiola had a good reason for such a thing, and after the game he explained what the problem was.

Haaland had a low temperature, as did Joao Cancelo. He was tired, and he took one awkward hit, and because of all that, we decided it would be best to take him out of the game. We needed two players because we struggled a lot in the first half, and Haaland and Cancelo couldn’t help much under the temperature,’ explained the Spanish coach.

Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City played without goals last night at Signal Iduna Park, which was enough for both teams to mathematically ensure placement in the knockout phase.

In the last round, City will host Sevilla at the Etihad, while Borussia will play in Copenhagen.
