Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood, who has been charged with rape and physical assault, has been remanded in custody after appearing at a Manchester court hearing.
He is also charged with “controlling and coercive behavior”, and appeared in court for the first time since his arrest on Saturday.
Greenwood was first arrested in late January after photos and videos were posted on social media showing a young woman with a bloody face and bruises on her body, with the message: “To anyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood really does.“
In early February, he was released under judicial supervision, only to be arrested again on Saturday on suspicion of violating the conditions under which he was released on bail.
When appearing in court, the 21-year-old footballer only stated his generals.
The alleged attempted rape took place in October last year, and the attack two months later.
The accusation of “controlling and coercive behavior” refers to the period from November 2018 to October of this year, and includes threatening and offensive messages toward the plaintiff. He allegedly spied on and hacked her social media accounts.
United immediately suspended Greenwood after his arrest at the beginning of the year. The company “Nike” terminated the contract with him, and he was kicked out of the video game “Fifa 22”.
