Graham Potter on Crystal Palace's Radar as Potential Managerial Candidate

Crystal Palace Football Club has reportedly set its sights on Graham Potter as a potential candidate for their vacant managerial position. Following the departure of Patrick Vieira in March, the Eagles unexpectedly turned to their former manager Roy Hodgson, who led them to an impressive 11th-placed finish in the Premier League with 18 points from 10 fixtures.

The question remains as to whether the 75-year-old veteran will continue in his role for another season, as his contract is set to expire at the end of the 2022-23 campaign. Given Palace’s location in London and their emphasis on signing young players, the club is seen as an appealing option for managers without current employment.

According to reports from Foot Mercato, Crystal Palace has expressed an interest in bringing Graham Potter back to the Premier League. The 48-year-old manager previously had a short stint at Chelsea, overseeing 31 matches between September and April, with 12 wins, eight draws, and 11 defeats across all competitions.

Despite his relatively brief tenure, Potter left Stamford Bridge with his reputation intact, largely due to the club’s erratic transfer activity. He also guided Chelsea to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League before his departure. Following his departure, Potter reportedly received offers from other top-flight clubs but opted to take a break from management.

However, as the weeks and months progress, it is expected that Potter will receive more proposals, as clubs are aware of his availability and the interest in his services. One potential obstacle for Crystal Palace is Potter’s previous successful spell at their rivals, Brighton & Hove Albion, before his move to Chelsea. Potter played a pivotal role in establishing Brighton as a Premier League club, but his replacement, Roberto De Zerbi, remarkably guided the Seagulls to a sixth-place finish and Europa League qualification this season.

The report also suggests that French club Nice is keeping a close eye on the situation, having missed out on continental football for the upcoming season. It remains to be seen which club will secure the services of Graham Potter as they look to shape their future on the managerial front.
