Barcelona football player and midfielder of the Spanish football team Gavi, with his goal against Costa Rica, entered the history of world football as one of the youngest scorers at the world championships.
Spain beat Costa Rica 7:0 in the first-round match of Group E at the World Cup, and the Barcelona player scored in the 74th minute.
“From the first minute we went for the win, we all had a wonderful game. But now we have to focus on the next match”, said Gavi at the press conference.
He is the youngest representative of Spain and the youngest scorer of the national team at the world championships, and at 18 years and 110 days he became the third youngest scorer in the history of the world championships after Pele and Manuel Rosas.
“I didn’t know that, they told me at the end of the game. I am proud to be among them. I am very happy, I could not have imagined it in my wildest dreams. I don’t think much about it, Koke always tells me that I will figure it out with age, I go step by step,” said Gavi.
Spain will play their next match against Germany on Sunday.
