NEW RULE, AGAIN, REALLY?! An idea for a new football rule that will make the fans angry!

Lately, football bosses have been trying to change the game as much as possible. We almost got the World Cup with 48 teams, the European Championship with 24, the story about the World Cup was pushed for two years, then the (failed) Super League, and now there is a new idea.

This time, it is not a question of any competition, but it is a matter of changing one football rule. Specifically, about the break between the two half times.

Namely, the idea comes from the House of Football in South America (COMNEBOL), which has the idea that the break between the two halves will be extended from the current 15 to 25 minutes.

The idea is to give spectators in stadiums a different kind of entertainment than before, more in the style of the Super Bowl ?! With a concert, if possible, in a break.

Of course, everything revolves around money, because in that way the organizers could additionally profit from advertisements, sponsorships and other accompanying activities.

An experiment is even planned to be conducted in South America, at the final of the Copa Libertadores, which will be played on Saturday between Palmeiras and Flamengo.

The final application of that experimental rule will be discussed at a recent FIFA Board meeting.

There is a possibility that the proposal from the top of CONMEBOL will be supported, but certain members of the Board have already expressed concern that a longer break between the two halves could bring a larger number of injuries to the players.

At the moment, there are no indications whether such a proposal will be adopted in the end or not. For example, in 2009, an attempt was made to extend the break from 15 to 20 minutes – without success.

We’ll see if it stays that way…
