Ange Postecoglou has emerged as the early favourite to take charge of Nottingham Forest following the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo, opening the door for a return to Premier League management.
The former Tottenham manager, who led Spurs to Europa League glory last season before being sacked, is understood to be firmly in the frame. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is a long-standing admirer and, in July presented the 60-year-old with a special award recognising his European success, praising him publicly and hinting at more to come.
Forest’s hierarchy moved during the international break after relations with Nuno deteriorated. While the club’s multi-layered structure can be demanding, sources close to Postecoglou say he is eager to step back into management and would give a serious hearing to any proposal.
Forest are competing in this season’s Europa League, offering Postecoglou the chance of another tilt at a competition he recently conquered. A decision is expected swiftly as Marinakis considers whether to act on his admiration and bring Postecoglou back to England’s top flight.
