Manchester United look to extend strong Premier League form away to Nottingham Forest

Manchester United travel to the City Ground on Saturday afternoon looking to extend their impressive run of league form, while Nottingham Forest enter the match desperate to halt a sequence of defeats that has seen them slide into the relegation zone.

Forest have lost six of their last seven Premier League matches, failing to score in their last four. It is not the backdrop new manager Sean Dyche would have hoped for, particularly with confidence fragile and pressure rising. United, meanwhile, arrive in a buoyant mood. Victories over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton have helped shift the tone around Ruben Amorim’s project, with the team showing greater control, aggression and purpose.

United have taken 15 points since matchday three, a tally bettered only by league leaders Arsenal. Their total of 14 goals in that period is also the highest in the division. The form of Bryan Mbeumo has been central to this rise, with the forward directly involved in four goals in his last three league appearances. In terms of overall goal contributions in 2025, only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland have been more productive.

Forest, however, have shown they can respond when the stakes are highest. Dyche’s first match saw his side defeat Porto with intensity and structure, but that was quickly followed by a flat display in a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth. A lack of goals remains a clear issue: Forest’s shot conversion rate stands at just 7%, the lowest in the league. Chris Wood is currently their top scorer with only two goals.

There is also a tactical adjustment taking place. Under Dyche, Forest have increased their use of longer passing and more direct play. Goalkeeper Matz Sels attempted 25 long passes against Bournemouth, the highest number by any Forest player this season. While the approach may take time to bed in, the immediate need for results is difficult to ignore.

Despite their strong form, United have reason to be cautious. Forest have won their last three league meetings against them. Not since 1910 have Forest achieved four consecutive wins in this fixture, but recent history has shown the gap between the sides is not as large as league position suggests.

Amorim will again look to Matheus Cunha, who scored against Brighton to end a long goal drought and continues to pose a threat from distance. His record of scoring from outside the area is unmatched in the Premier League over the last two seasons. United are also creating chances in volume, with the highest number of shots on target in the division. Their challenge is improving conversion and efficiency.

Forest, meanwhile, need a spark in attack and greater clarity in their final third decision-making. Their passing structure remains tidy, but the lack of cutting edge is proving costly. If they cannot find a breakthrough, the match may follow recent patterns.

Both sides have also shown a tendency to concede late in matches. With that in mind, the conclusion of this fixture could prove decisive.

United arrive confident. Forest arrive in need. The conditions are set for a competitive afternoon at the City Ground, with momentum and psychology weighing heavily on the outcome.
