Alexander Isak scored twice as Newcastle United secured their sixth consecutive Premier League victory, defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle came into the match full of confidence after winning eight straight games in all competitions. They started strong, with Jacob Murphy forcing Wolves goalkeeper José Sá into an early save. At the other end, a defensive mistake allowed Gonçalo Guedes a chance to score, but he fired wide. Newcastle quickly regained control, with Isak narrowly missing the target after a strong effort from Murphy.
Then, Isak made history by becoming the first Newcastle player to score in eight consecutive Premier League matches. He broke the deadlock with a solo run, benefiting from a deflection off a Wolves player, before his shot went past a wrong-footed Sá. Wolves nearly equalised when Jørgen Strand Larsen hit the post with a first-time shot, but Newcastle went into halftime ahead, with Sandro Tonali’s shot also narrowly missing.
Newcastle continued to dominate in the second half, and with just over an hour played, Isak scored again. He finished coolly after receiving a pass from Bruno Guimarães inside the box. Wolves had a chance when substitute Matheus Cunha missed the target, but soon after, Newcastle sealed the win. Isak set up Anthony Gordon to score his fifth goal in six games, making it 3-0.
Wolves had a late push, but Santiago Bueno’s would-be goal was ruled out for handball, and Martin Dúbravka saved Strand Larsen’s close-range effort by tipping it onto the crossbar. Despite some late pressure, Wolves couldn’t find a consolation goal, and Newcastle held on for the win.
The result lifted Newcastle into the top four, overtaking Chelsea, who drew with Bournemouth. For Wolves, manager Vítor Pereira’s unbeaten start has now ended with back-to-back defeats, leaving them 18th in the table.
