Coach Emilio De Leo spoke about the team’s condition and preparations ahead of Malta’s final group match against Poland. He explained that, because of yesterday’s travel, today would be the first and only chance to properly assess the players before the match.
De Leo highlighted the importance of having Teddy Teuma and Ryan Camenzuli back in the squad, calling their return a big advantage. He also spoke warmly about Jake Grech, praising his character and dedication. De Leo shared a moment when Grech was left on the bench and had tears in his eyes, saying it showed what a special footballer he is.
Looking ahead to the Poland match, De Leo stressed that Malta should not see themselves as underdogs. The team needs to show their qualities, stay positive, and not be discouraged. “This international window has given us something we didn’t have before. We are still building the team. Whatever the results, the performances show progress,” he said.

Goal-scorer Jake Grech reflected on his recent breakthrough. He described scoring his first international goal as “double satisfaction,” especially since it helped Malta achieve their first away win in 12 years. He also admitted the team has often felt they could have earned more points, particularly in the home game against Finland and matches against Lithuania. “Scoring for Malta is an incredible feeling. Playing for the national team is every footballer’s dream, and scoring makes it even better,” he said.

Grech added that playing against Robert Lewandowski and his teammates is a huge opportunity. “It’s a great chance to learn. Sharing the pitch with such legends helps you grow as a player,” he said.
