San Ġwann Pro Evolution stun leaders Swieqi Braves

San Gwann Pro Evolution Academy surprised MAFA First Division leaders Swieqi Braves when they beat them 1-0 in a very intensive but balanced game.The French students are now only four points away from the top of the standings still occupied by the Braves. Swieqi tried hard to equalize the score but they couldn’t perforate their opponents rearguard. The goal that decided the match was scored on the half hour through Merouane Benabou. Referee: Karl Stefan Galea. Senglea Gunners continued to move away from the relegation zone when they found little difficulty in defeating Valletta Stars St Dominic 3-0. The Cottonera side scored a goal in the first half and added two more in the second half to get three very important points. Juan Zarate put the Gunners in the lead after 31 minutes of play so that Aaron Selam made it 2-0 in the 45th minute. Anas Souhaile sealed the issue on 59 minutes. Referee: Lorry Sammut. In the second division, Attard Edex Kings climbed second in the table when they beat Zebbug Youngsters 2-0.

Edex Kings did not find it easy to break the highly organized defense of the Youngsters although it held firm until the 57th minute when Braham Garcia Espinosa put Attard in the lead so that Aaron Bryne scored the second goal five minutes later.Referee: Gjorgji Bitri.Mqabba Albions were held to a goalless draw by Gudja Wanderers. The latter defended boldly as they tried to operate on the counter.Mqabba tried as hard as they could while they were unlucky to hit the post on more than one occasion.With this draw, the Albions are in the middle of the table while Gudja are two points away from the relegation zone.Referee: Ray Tabone.

In the direct clash of the MAFA Third Division, Hamrun Amateurs climbed to first place in the table as they beat Ħal Far Titans 1-0.

After a goalless draw in the first half in a very defensive game, in the second half the Red/Blacks scored the goal that decided the game. It was Joyfred Farrugia who received well from the right to take advantage of a rebound and put the ball behind the goalkeeper Gabriel Farrugia.Referee: Ian Xuereb.Għaxaq Wolves secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Next Auto Car Sales Ltd KO when they found little difficulty in defeating Naxxar Victorians 4-0.The Wolves scored two goals in each half and although Naxxar tried to reduce the scoring margin, their opponents were very solid in defence.Rodney Grixti put them ahead in the eighth minute with the same player doubling the score in the 36th minute.Pablo Alvis (61st minute) and Jorge Carreno (66th minute) completed the score for the Wolves.Referee: Jonathan Balzan.
