Team Malta delivered another spirited performance on Day 5 of the European Youth Olympic Festival in Osijek, Croatia, with Thea Parnis Coleiro narrowly missing out on breaking her own national record.
The 200m sprint star finished sixth in the girls’ final, clocking 24.07 seconds, just 0.01 seconds shy of the national record she had set in the semifinals the previous day. The gold medal went to Italy’s Margherita Castellani, a rising talent who also won silver at the 2024 European Athletics U18 Championships.
In Taekwondo, Alycia Cassar bowed out in the first round of the Girls’ –63kg division, losing 2–0 to Germany’s Viktoria Rucinski after a hard-fought contest.
Team Malta’s final appearance at the Festival comes on Saturday, with Sophie St. John competing in the Balance Beam Final, a chance to close the competition on a high.
