The European Olympic Committees (EOC) and Turkey’s Ministry of Youth and Sports have signed the Host Country Agreement for the 2027 European Games in Istanbul.
The agreement confirms the Ministry’s full support for the 4th edition of the Games and builds on the Host City Contract signed earlier this year.
EOC President Spyros Capralos and Turkish Minister Osman Aşkın Bak signed the agreement, with preparations underway in Istanbul.
Capralos also announced the EOC Coordination Commission for the Games, led by Romanian NOC President Mihai Covaliu, with Croatian NOC President Zlatko Mateša as Vice-Chair. The 24-member commission represents sports across Europe and will visit Istanbul for the first time in January 2026.
Capralos said: “Istanbul is an outstanding host city with a strong record in world-class events. The Coordination Commission brings experience and insight from across European sport. We are excited for Europe’s top athletes to compete in Istanbul in 2027, with many aiming to qualify for the Olympics.”
Turkish Minister Bak added: “Türkey is honoured to host the 2027 European Games. We are committed to delivering an exceptional event and welcoming Europe’s best athletes.”
The Games will build on the success of the 2023 European Games in Krakow-Małopolska, where more than 100 Olympic quota spots for Paris 2024 were awarded. The full sport programme for Istanbul 2027 is being finalised and will be part of the Olympic Qualification Systems for many sports ahead of Los Angeles 2028.
The Coordination Commission members include leaders from European National Olympic Committees and sports federations, as well as Olympic experts and advisors.
