Primoz Roglic will skip next year’s Tour de France to focus on winning a record fifth Vuelta a España title.
The Slovenian, who rides for Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, won his fourth Vuelta in 2024, matching Spaniard Roberto Heras. At 36, Roglic has not had the same success at the Tour de France, coming closest in 2020 when he finished second behind fellow Slovenian Tadej Pogacar. He placed eighth this year, far behind Pogacar, who won his fourth Tour in July.
Roglic said he is being realistic about his chances: “If I could choose one race to win, I would pick the Tour de France. But the reality is different. I need to focus on races where I can be competitive and go for victories. If you ask me straight, second at the Tour or winning the Vuelta, I would choose the Vuelta, it’s simple.”
Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe confirmed that Belgian Remco Evenepoel and German Florian Lipowitz will lead the team at the Tour de France.
Roglic also won the Giro d’Italia in 2023 and was the Tokyo 2020 Olympic time trial champion.
