Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany insists his side remain fully focused on Saturday’s Bundesliga encounter against Hoffenheim despite title celebrations set to take place in Munich the following day.
The Bavarian giants have already wrapped up the league title with a game to spare marking a successful debut season for Kompany at the helm. However the Belgian coach is determined that his players maintain their concentration for the final fixture of the campaign.
Bayern who have scored 95 league goals this season, could reach the 100-goal milestone with a strong performance in Sinsheim. The match also holds personal significance for striker Harry Kan,e who is on course to become the Bundesliga’s top scorer for a second consecutive season. The England captain has netted 25 goals so far, five more than Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy.
While the title is already secured, Saturday’s match carries greater weight for Hoffenheim. The hosts are only three points above the relegation playoff position currently occupied by Heidenheim and will be fighting to avoid a nervous end to their season.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Kompany stressed the importance of finishing the season strongly.
The anticipation for the title party in Munich is great because that was our goal to bring the league trophy back said the Bayern coach. But right now my only focus is on the Hoffenheim game. That is our absolute priority, and we’re preparing accordingly. We will enjoy what happens afterwards because we’ve earned it.
The final whistle on Saturday will be followed by Bayern’s traditional title celebration on the balcony of Munich’s City Hall, where thousands of fans are expected to gather in Marienplatz.
This title is special, Kompany added. I treat every trophy as if it is my first, so I’m really looking forward to celebrating with our supporters.
Bayern’s attention will soon shift to international duties as the squad prepares for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which begins in late June. The team is set to reconvene in early June following a short break.
