Harry Kane became the fastest player this century to reach 100 goals for a single club in Europe’s top five leagues, scoring twice in Bayern Munich’s commanding 4-0 victory over Werder Bremen.
Bayern set a relentless tone from the outset. Kane tested Karl Hein with two early efforts, both created by the lively Michael Olise, and the pressure told on 22 minutes when a left-footed cross from Olise led to the opener, with replays indicating the final touch came off Luis Díaz rather than Jonathan Tah’s deft back heel.
Kane soon threatened again after being played through by Leon Goretzka, but Hein stood firm. The England captain would not be denied for long. Brought down by Marco Friedl inside the area, he converted from the spot to claim his 99th Bayern goal and set a new Bundesliga mark for consecutive successful penalties with his 18th, moving clear of Jorg Butt and Robert Lewandowski.
Bremen hinted at a response after the interval. Jens Stage headed off target from a Yukinari Sugawara cross before the full back forced Manuel Neuer into a sharp save at the near post. Bayern swiftly reasserted control, and the landmark moment arrived as Díaz surged into the box and squared for Kane to slide home from close range, bringing up his century in his 104th appearance.
Díaz went close to adding a fourth with a curling effort that drifted wide, and Olise danced through challenges before Hein denied him. With the contest settled, Kane made way for Nicolas Jackson on 78 minutes, and there was still time for Konrad Laimer to steer in a composed, angled finish to complete a comprehensive performance.
The result preserved Bayern’s perfect start and delivered an eighth straight win in all competitions to open the season for the first time since 2016 to 2017 under Carlo Ancelotti. Most headlines, though, will focus on Kane, who reached 100 Bayern goals in one match fewer than Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland, underlining his status among the game’s elite finishers.
