The basketball players of Greece did not shine at Mundobasket, what’s more, they were eliminated in the second group stage after losing to the United States of America and Montenegro. All this can lead to Dimitris Itoudis not completing the third year of his contract with the national team, the local “Gazeta” reports.
The Greeks finished the tournament in 15th place, the lowest a Hellenic team has ever taken. A big problem was the absence of the team’s main players, such as Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Although an early assessment has already been made in Manila, the president of the association, Vangelis Liolios, emphasized that it will not be long before the team members will sit down at the table and analyze everything bad during the summer, as well as that a difficult period for the national team will follow.
According to “Gazeta”, Dimitris Itoudis is reportedly seriously considering terminating the third year of his contract, in order to devote himself to the high demands and increased pressures he will have this year in Fenerbahçe.
Last season, Fenerbahçe finished eighth in the regular season of the Euroleague, and then in the playoffs, it was eliminated by the first-placed Olympiakos, so since the team did not go to the Final Four, the year can be characterized as unsuccessful.
Because of this, according to the Greek “Gazeta”, Itoudis could leave the national team and devote himself only to his duties in the Turkish giant.
