Tunisia and Tanzania both booked their place in the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations after playing out a dull 1-1 draw.
The match was tense and low on quality, with neither side willing to take risks. Chances were very limited in the first half, and it took almost 40 minutes for a key moment to arrive. After a long VAR check, Tunisia were awarded a penalty when Hazem Mastouri was fouled in the box. Gharbi stepped up and calmly scored to give Tunisia the lead just before half-time.
Despite offering very little going forward in the opening period, Tanzania responded soon after the restart. Novatus Miroshi played a neat pass to Feisal Salum, who fired a low shot from outside the area to beat the goalkeeper and level the match.
The second half passed without much action, as Tunisia were happy to sit back and protect the result, knowing second place in the group was secure. Tanzania were unable to find a winner, but the point proved enough to keep their tournament hopes alive.
The draw sends both teams through to the next round. Tunisia finish second in Group C and will face Mali, while Tanzania progress as one of the best third-placed teams and could meet either Morocco or Egypt.
