De Leo names 28-man Malta squad for October International fixtures

National Teams Head Coach Emilio De Leo has announced the final 28-man Malta squad for the upcoming October international window, which includes a 2026 FIFA World Cup European Qualifier against Group G leaders the Netherlands, followed by a home friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Malta will first host the Netherlands on Thursday, 9 October, at 20:45 at the National Stadium, Ta’ Qali. The team will then return to the same venue on Sunday, 12 October, at 19:00, to face Bosnia and Herzegovina 🇧🇦 in an international friendly.

Paul Mbong (FK Čukarički) and Zach Muscat (Chaves FC) will both miss the qualifier against the Netherlands due to suspension but will be available for selection in the friendly match three days later.

The squad also features the return of veteran defender Steve Borg (Valletta FC), who will make his final appearance for the national team in the Bosnia and Herzegovina fixture. The match will serve as a testimonial for Borg, honouring a distinguished international career spanning more than a decade representing Malta in red.
