European Aquatics has launched a new project for 2025 called the Athlete Ambassador Pilot Project. The aim is to promote the sport, bring fans closer to top athletes, and support important social initiatives in all aquatic disciplines.
Some of Europe’s most well-known athletes will act as ambassadors throughout the year, representing European Aquatics at major events, in the media, and in community projects. Their role is to raise awareness of the sport and connect with fans and local communities.
One of the first ambassadors is Italian star Roberta Bianconi, who will represent European Aquatics at the Women’s Champions League Final Four on 2–3 May. She is an Olympic and world medallist and will help promote the event, meet fans, and speak to the media.
Danish swimmer Pernille Blume, who won gold in the 50m freestyle at the Rio 2016 Olympics, will be the ambassador for the European Aquatics Short Course Championships in Lublin, Poland this December. She’ll help with media work, marketing, and community engagement.

Olympic open water champion Sharon Van Rouwendaal will support the Aquatics Social Responsibility (ASR) projects, including the Swim Safe Europe campaign. She’ll appear at the European Aquatics Congress in Georgia and help raise awareness around water safety, sustainability, and community involvement.

A special ambassador for the Men’s Water Polo Champions League Final Four in Valletta, Malta (30 May–1 June) will be announced soon. This ambassador will take part in event commentary, fan activities, and media work.
This new project shows European Aquatics’ commitment to building stronger links between athletes, fans, and communities. If the pilot is successful, it may continue in the coming years.
