How do you like the idea of holding the World Cup every two years? You are probably not thrilled, like many others…
FIFA announced that it plans to hold the World Cup every two years, instead of four, as is the case now. And provoked numerous reactions.
That idea was opposed, for example, by the selector of the Serbian national team, Dragan Stojkovic Piksi, but also by institutions such as UEFA and CONMEBOL.
It has now been revealed why. National leagues and UEFA, if the World Cup moves from four to two years, would lose as much as eight billion euros per season.
These are forecasts based on lost money from TV rights and commercial contracts, Reuters reports.
Here’s what it’s all about: more frequent international competitions and additional matches could affect national leagues, which would have to reduce the number of teams and even change the schedule of matches during the working days of the week.
But that’s not all either… Obviously, there is nothing from the Super League either.
The European Parliament has adopted their draft policy related to sports competitions, and there are no competitions like the Super League in their plans. 597 deputies voted for the plan, while only 36 were against it.
Although the report does not clearly mention the European Super League, it is clearly stated that the creation of new competitions without the knowledge of sports federations at the state and European level is not supported.
So, there will be no big changes in the world of football.
