Rashford, Henderson and Sterling axed by Southgate

Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson have been omitted from England’s preliminary squad for Euro 2024, with the uncapped Jarrad Branthwaite, Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah, and Adam Wharton making the cut.

England manager Gareth Southgate has announced a broadened training group of 33 players in preparation for the tournament commencing on June 14. Southgate must reduce this squad to a maximum of 26 players by 11pm on June 7, coinciding with England’s final friendly against Iceland before the tournament.

Manchester United’s midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze are included in the squad, along with defenders Lewis Dunk and Ezri Konsa.

Forwards Anthony Gordon and Ivan Toney have also been selected, alongside Manchester City’s Jack Grealish, who has endured an injury-plagued season with the Premier League champions.
