FEDERER NEAR RETURN: I had to start from scratch!

Swiss tennis player Roger Federer, who has not competed for eight months due to knee problems, said today in Lenzerheid that he hopes to return to the court at the end of this summer.

– I’m fine, much better. I was on crutches for two months, I had to start from scratch. But that was the real thing, the knee was not good after Wimbledon – Federer said for the Swiss media in Lenzerheid, where he attended the World Cup race for skiers.

– Now I am slowly coming to the stage where I can think about returning – said the former best tennis player in the world.

Federer, who will turn 41 on August 8, added that he would need more time to consider returning “in late summer, early fall.”

The winner of 20 Grand Slam titles has not played since the defeat in the Wimbledon quarterfinals in July 2021. He has been suffering from a knee injury for two years, which he operated on several times.

The Swiss played only 13 matches in 2021 and six in 2020 and is currently in 27th place on the ATP list.
