ONE STEP CLOSER TO IMMORTALITY: Djokovic caught up with his idol's Wimbledon record!

By winning the Wimbledon final, Novak Djokovic won the 21st Grand Slam title in his career, and at the same time, he managed to equal his idol’s record for the number of trophies won in London.

With his seventh title on the courts of the “All England Club”, Djokovic managed to equalize with his idol and one of the best players in the history of tennis, Pete Sampras.

In the early 1990s, Sampras won three tied titles in London (1993, 1994, 1995), and later tied as many as four (1997-2000).

Djokovic started his journey to history in 2011 when he defeated Rafael Nadal, and just after that victory he became the world’s number one tennis player, at the beginning of his career. He continued his great winning streak in 2014 and 2015. This was followed by a triumph against Kevin Anderson in 2018 and then in 2019 against Roger Federer in one of the best finals ever played.

With his seventh title on the courts of the “All England Club”. If the tournament had been played in 2020 (it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic), Djokovic would probably have one more title. In this way, Novak triumphed last year against Matteo Berrettini, and now Nick Kyrgios has fallen.

Djokovic is now continuing his quest for the Wimbledon record of Roger Federer, who has one title more than the Serbian tennis player, and already next year, Novak will have the opportunity to equal his success.

If injuries bypass him, and if he maintains the form that graced him this year, there is no doubt that Novak Djokovic will be the biggest favorite for the Wimbledon trophy next year as well.
