British tennis player Andy Murray supported Novak Djokovic in the recent Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz.
Djokovic was the favorite in the grand final of the unofficial world tennis championship, but the Spaniard won his first Wimbledon title after five sets.
Murray, the first Brit after Fred Perry to lift the trophy on the Central Court, believed that Novak would celebrate.
“I wouldn’t really say that I’m surprised (by the victory of Alcaraz). I thought Novak would win, but the playing conditions that day suited Carlos very well. It was very wet, windy, not the best conditions for Djokovic’s game,” said the former world number one and added:
“It was very tight. I would say – the result was a bit surprising but when they asked me that day, Who do you think will win I said I bet – but I’m not allowed to bet I would back Novak. I also said that it wouldn’t surprise me if Alcaraz wins because he is an amazing player.”
Murray was delighted with the game of both of them.
“I enjoyed watching the match. Especially in the last two sets I thought they played great tennis in really challenging conditions. Both are amazing players, brilliant athletes. It was impressive to watch them”, concluded Murray.
