In the first round of the WTA tournament in Indian Wells, Marta Kostyuk, the 19-year-old Ukrainian tennis player defeated Belgian Maryna Zanevska with 2:1 (6:7, 7:6, 7:5).
The young 19-year-old, instead of celebrating her victory and passing on, was unable to do so because of the horrors of her people in Ukraine.
She paid special attention to her Ukrainian colleagues.
“I am disappointed that no Russian tennis player has come so far and told me how sorry she is for everything that is happening. To apologize for her land inflicting mine. What is happening is terrible and no one has given me support, no one has asked how I am. “Well, that’s shocking,” Kostyuk said.
She said she was thinking exclusively of human lives, not politics.
“It’s not about politics, it’s about human lives. It hurts me to see the problems that plague tennis players. It is important to them where they will transfer their money or similar topics. That is unacceptable. I have no idea why the Russians are behaving like this because it is no secret what is happening in Ukraine. We know who is attacking who, we know who is bombing who, and therefore you cannot remain indifferent and neutral. ” Kostyuk finished.
