Jack Draper, the 23-year-old British tennis sensation, clinched his first ATP Masters 1000 title at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Sunday, delivering a commanding performance against Denmark’s Holger Rune with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Throughout the tournament, Draper showcased exceptional form, notably defeating two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals and 2022 champion Taylor Fritz in earlier rounds.
This victory propels Draper into the top 10 of the ATP rankings for the first time, ascending to the seventh position.
Reflecting on his achievement, Draper expressed immense satisfaction, stating, “It’s incredible. I wasn’t expecting this. I’ve put in a lot of work over time and I’m just so grateful and so happy to be out here to be able to play, my body feeling healthy, to feel great in the mind.”
Draper’s journey to this milestone has been marked by rapid progression. Eighteen months ago, he was ranked 123rd globally, but a series of impressive performances, including his first ATP title in Stuttgart and a semifinal appearance at the U.S. Open, have cemented his status as a rising star in men’s tennis.
Looking ahead, Draper remains focused on continuous improvement, emphasizing his ambition to compete at the highest levels and achieve further success in the sport.
