Tournament organizers announced that Tunisian tennis player Ons Jabeur has decided to withdraw from the U.S. Open, adding to her list of disappointments in a season plagued by injuries.

Earlier this month, she pulled out of the Citi Open due to a right shoulder injury, and in June, she was forced to retire from the quarter-finals of the Berlin Open. Furthermore, she was unable to participate in the Paris Olympics due to knee problems. Jabeur, a two-time finalist at Wimbledon, suffered yet another defeat earlier this month in Toronto, losing to Naomi Osaka in the first round. As a result of Jabeur’s withdrawal, Elise Mertens will replace her position in the draw as the 33rd seed.

A qualifier or lucky loser will take Mertens’ place in the draw.
