Haddad Maia stuns Navarro to reach Strasbourg Semis in Rabat

Beatriz Haddad Maia staged a thrilling comeback to defeat second-seeded Emma Navarro in a dramatic quarterfinal at the Internationaux de Strasbourg, while Camila Osorio remains the only seed left standing in Rabat.

In a grueling contest that lasted just over three hours on Thursday, ninth seed Haddad Maia of Brazil rallied past No. 2 seed Navarro 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-2. Despite struggling at times, Haddad Maia saved nine of 14 break points and capitalized on nine double faults from the American. Navarro served for the match at 6-5 in the second set but couldn’t close it out, opening the door for the resilient Brazilian to mount a stirring turnaround.

Haddad Maia now moves on to face No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina in the semifinals after the Kazakh player dispatched Poland’s Magda Linette 7-5, 6-3.

In the other half of the draw, No. 8 Liudmila Samsonova of Russia edged past No. 3 Paula Badosa 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in a tight three-setter. Samsonova will face Danielle Collins, who advanced to the semifinals via walkover after Anna Kalinskaya withdrew from their quarterfinal clash.
