Francesca Curmi, the Maltese tennis player of the moment, is set to compete for the W50 Funchal championship after securing her spot in the final on Sunday.
Ranked 417 by the WTA, Curmi will face off against Kristina Dmitruk from Belarus, who holds the 347th position, at midday on Sunday.
The Maltese athlete triumphed over Jodie Burrage from Britain, ranked 295, during the semi-final match on Saturday.
Despite dropping the first set 6-4, Curmi rallied to win the next two sets 7-5 and 6-1.
On her way to the finals, Curmi defeated France’s Yasmine Mansouri, ranked 322, and Ukraine’s Daria Snigur, who is ranked 144.
