The legendary Swiss Roger Federer, one of the owners of the Laver Cup, pointed out that next year he would like to see Novak Djokovic again at that tournament.
Without Novak, but also the other biggest European tennis aces, this team, led by Bjorn Borg, could do nothing against the World Team, which celebrated with a convincing score of 13:2.
“They destroyed the European team. The world team played fantastically, they really had energy. Everyone scored a point, they were stronger in doubles. They fully deserved the victory,” said Federer and added:
“It was great to return to the tennis family again, to experience the Laver Cup from a completely different angle for the first time. I tried to watch every match here and it was fantastic. We talked about volleys and doubles and how it was in the sixties and seventies. Borg and McEnroe said that Rod Laver was their hero, he played long before my time, but I know what he represents in tennis”.
The next edition is scheduled for Berlin in 2024.
“We can speak German, I am very much looking forward to Berlin, a city I don’t know very well. I can’t wait to go there. I think it’s great to bring tennis back to Germany. I think we will have much better energy as a European team”.
At the end, Roger was asked who he would like to see in the European team next year.
“I would like to see Novak again, Alcaraz and Novak in the same team. Saša Zverev would be great for the German market. Someone like Rune. Daniil Medvedev would be great. I like to watch Andrey Rublev”, concluded Roger Federer.
Let us remind you that Novak played in the Laver Cup in 2018 and 2022.
