THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN IS GETTING WEAKER: A 25 year tradition broken!

Looking at the list of participants in both men’s and women’s competitions, it seems that the upcoming Australian Open will never be weaker!

There will not be many names like Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Dominic Tim… And Venus Williams has joined the list of tennis players who will not attend the first Grand Slam of the season, according to Australian media.

What is very interesting is that this will be the first time since 1997 that none of the Williams sisters will be at the Australian Open!

So, for a full 25 years, or a quarter of a century, Serena or Venus played in the first Grand Slam of the season, but in 2022 that will not be the case.

It is simply amazing how long the Williams sisters’ careers have lasted, which have entered tennis history and are certainly one of the symbols when we talk about women’s tennis.

On the other hand, that means that the leaders of the Australian Open will have to do their best to bring in Novak Djokovic in order to raise interest in the tournament.

At the moment, only Rafael Nadal is on the list of participants with the strongest marketing names, so it is clear why Djokovic must be in Melbourne from the point of view of the competition leader.

We will see if such an outcome happens in the end…
