Karen Andrews, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Australia, said that Novak Djokovic was not captured, but that he could leave the country whenever he wanted.
The best tennis player in the world has been staying at the Park Hotel since Wednesday, which has been turned into a kind of immigration center, after his request to enter Australia was rejected on the basis of a medical exemption.
“Mr. Djokovic is not in custody, he is free to go whenever he wants, and the border police will make it easier for him to leave,” said Minister Andrews.
In addition to the Serbian tennis player, two other AO participants are under investigation.
“I can confirm that the Australian Border Police is conducting an investigation. There are two people under investigation,” Andrews said.
Those two people allegedly received visas under the same conditions that were not enough for Djokovic.
“We have intelligence that there are individuals who did not meet the conditions for entry, and we must investigate that. I know there is a lot of talk about visas. Visa, as far as I understand, is not a problem, it is just a condition for entry. “The gracious forces were very clear that Djokovic was not able to fulfill the conditions he needed to enter Australia,” the minister added.
Djokovic is awaiting a court decision Monday when it will be known whether he will be deported or not.
