Djokovic: People have neglected human relations and communication, children at the age of eight have smartwatches

After his victory over Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16 of the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic talked about a number of topics.

One of them was the overuse of technology.

“No matter how many benefits and advantages of technology we have today, it is so excessive – it has created a dependence on the phone. People neglected human relationships and communication, which was normal before. That’s how I grew up, I’m from the generation before that revolution, I caught a part of the nineties, the suffering nineties here, I had a childhood, playing in the yard,” said Novak and added:

“I miss seeing that – when I’m in Belgrade, I go to Banjica and there aren’t as many children as before.” Now, at the age of eight or nine, they already have a smartwatch… Parents can’t run away from their responsibility, they can’t just say that it’s such a time and they can’t do anything. Technology cannot be thrown out, but a healthy balance needs to be found. There is so much bad radiation it’s unbelievable, people don’t spend time in nature. It’s fashionable to have a phone, you look for a boyfriend or girlfriend through the networks, and there is no more talk like before. Call me old-fashioned… I love Instagram, life through pictures, but only if a man knows how to control it. For that, a person cannot remain alone, remain a child alone, and criticize himself afterward. I would like to go back a little to experience how it used to be, in the old Yugoslavia for example”.

Djokovic won 3:0 (7:6 (9-7), 6:3, 6:4), but he was not satisfied with the fans, who were constantly throwing things from the stands between serves.

“Everything is in the heat of the fight, I get annoyed when something like today happens in some situations, I don’t blame them, I know they want the best, but sometimes it happens. Maybe they should try to save the comments until the end of the point in those moments – when it is to be served or when the point has started. But the excitement is great, a match like this attracted a lot of attention, and people felt that they were a part of it, an uncertain match and a great atmosphere, but nothing terrible”.

The Serbian tennis player once again referred to his back injury.

“We talked after the first and second matches, there is a lot of uncertainty about how the leg will behave, the circumstances are unpredictable. One hasty movement or landing can cause further problems. That was the case today on several occasions, and more so than in the second match. I will continue with the recovery routine, I don’t train on days in between, I give as much space as possible for the leg to recover”.

In the fourth round, Djokovic will meet Alex de Minor from Australia, with whom he has not yet played.
