Xavi was shocked by the arrest of the Barcelona legend: I am taken aback and surprised

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez said today that he is in a “state of shock” after the pretrial detention of Brazilian player Dani Alves, who was accused of sexual abuse.

“I am surprised, taken aback, I am shocked because I know Dani,” Xavi said at the press conference.

Alves was arrested yesterday in Barcelona for “sexual assault”, a charge that includes rape in Spain’s criminal code.

According to a source familiar with the case, the young woman accused Alves of rape, and the judge decided on Friday to order Alves into pretrial detention and not allow him to be released on bail.

“Justice will take its course, nothing more can be said. As for Dani, I’m sorry for him, I’m surprised considering who Dani is and how he behaved when he was with us”, said Xavi, a former teammate of Alaves in Barcelona.

Catalan police said they received the complaint against Alves on January 2.

The case took place in the toilet of a nightclub in Barcelona on the night between December 30 and 31, Spanish media reported.
