Novak Djokovic will not play until mid-August. But, despite the fact that the best tennis player in history will not take the court, the gap to Carlos Alcaraz is closing.
Mainly due to the fact that the Spanish tennis player will miss two tournaments from which his points will be deducted.
Alcaraz confirmed that he will not play in the tournament in Hamburg. He played the final on it last season, so he will lose a total of 300 points.
Also, the audience in Croatian Umag will not have the privilege of watching the world’s number one tennis player. Given that he played there in the semi-finals last season, he will be without an additional 150 points.
So, all in all, the Spaniard will be left without 450 points due to two missed tournaments. As the current difference between Djokovic and Alcaraz is 880 points, it will be exactly 430 with the points deleted in advance.
It is a great fact that Djokovic has zero points to defend on the tour in the USA, since he did not even play there last season, he can only further reduce the difference and eventually overtake Alcaraz at the head of the ATP tour.
He will have the first opportunity to do so in Cincinnati at the Masters, which is scheduled from August 13 to 20. All this is preparation for the US Open, which will be played from August 28 to September 10.
There is no doubt that Djokovic will go for his 24th Grand Slam trophy in New York, and it would not be bad to settle scores with Alcaraz for losing the Wimbledon final.
