The 2025 Evian Padel Open delivered a weekend of high-intensity matches and dramatic finishes at the Padel Malta complex in Pembroke, as some of Malta’s best players competed alongside international talent in one of the sport’s most competitive local events.

Organised at the Union Padel Club and sanctioned by the Malta Tennis and Padel Federation, the tournament ran over two weekends in April. Group stages were held on 5 and 6 April, followed by knockout rounds the following weekend, with large crowds turning out for the finals in what has become a growing sporting spectacle in Malta.
The men’s final proved to be a tense and gripping contest. Spanish player Oier Zuazua and Malta’s Matthew Asciak edged past Santi Antonaya Labrador and Elian Abdalla in a match that went the distance. After taking the first set 7-5, Zuazua and Asciak were pushed to a third set when their opponents levelled the match with a 7-6 win in the second. But it was the Zuazua-Asciak pairing who held their nerve, clinching the decider 7-5 to take the title.
In the Male B tournament, Sweden’s Wijkmark teamed up with Spain’s Sanchis to claim the title after overcoming the duo of Stivala and Elfstedt in another tightly contested final.
The women’s event saw Malta’s national tennis champion Elaine Genovese partner with Ivana Katavic to dominate the field en route to the final. There, they faced Czech player Ivana Kubickova and former professional Maria Vera Mencias. Genovese and Katavic maintained their impressive form, producing a commanding performance to seal a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Trophies were presented by Malta Tennis and Padel Federation president Marc Gingell Littlejohn, who praised the level of competition and growing enthusiasm for the sport across the island.
