Team Malta wrapped up its Paris 2024 commitments today at the Stade de France as Beppe Grillo competed in the 100m preliminary round.
Grillo’s bid to advance to the initial round of the 100 metres heats at the Paris Olympics came to an end when the Maltese sprinter could only secure fifth place in his heat at the Stade de France on Saturday.
Taking his position in heat six of the qualifying round, Grillo, who possessed the second fastest time among the competitors in his heat, struggled to keep up with his opponents after the first 20 metres. From that point onwards, he faced an uphill battle to secure one of the top two spots that would guarantee him a place in the next round.
His final time of 10.69 was 0.46 seconds slower than his national record of 10.23, which he achieved at the Balkan Championships in May of this year.
